Before founding Sheldrake Group, Zachary spent his career in financial services, beginning in 2008 and most recently serving as a District Vice President at Sun Life, supporting independent advisory practices across Ontario and British Columbia.
It was an unusual vantage point. Rather than building a single book of clients, he watched hundreds of planning conversations unfold, involving business owners, professionals, and families, close enough each time to see how hard it can be to connect otherwise sound investment, insurance, tax, and estate advice into one coordinated picture.
Sheldrake Group is built on the judgment that experience produced.
The practice today
Sheldrake Group is an insurance planning practice serving business owners and their families in Ontario. The work centres on the decisions that sit at the intersection of a private company and a family: business succession, estate equalization, the tax that falls due at death, and the insurance structures that fund it, coordinated with the client's accountant and estate lawyer rather than sold in isolation.
Credentials and licensing
Zachary holds the Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) and Elder Planning Counselor (EPC) designations. He is licensed to provide life and accident & sickness insurance in the Province of Ontario, and is licensed to transact insurance in Ontario only. Insurance products and services are provided through Sheldrake Group Inc. O/A Sheldrake Group, a licensed life insurance agency in Ontario.
Writing
Zachary is the author of The Decisions Wealth Depends On, on the choices that quietly determine whether wealth lasts through a generation. He also writes a series of planning notes for business owners, covering succession, corporate-owned insurance, the capital dividend account, estate equalization, and the tax a business owes at death.
Outside the work
Most of Zachary's decisions are made with his wife and two children in mind, a reminder that behind every plan is a family, not a balance sheet.
